Pre-School (2, 3 & 4 years)
We have 24 places in each of our two seperate buidlings so we are lively but not too noisey or hectic which can be a problem in some larger pre-school settings. Ratios are 1:4 for two year olds and 1:8 for our 3 and 4 year olds. Our nursery is structured so it is child led. By this we mean children can choose where to play and what to play with. This way they can follow their own interests which means we can engaged and interact with them easily by enhancing their own play just as you would at home.
For children to develop and learn they need to experience problem solving, creative thinking, nurturing social skills, helping themsevlves and risk assessing. We create an environment that enables them to do this.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework that sets the standards that all Early Years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children are ready for school and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
Incorporating this framework in a relaxed happy environment is the key to learning! We are always looking at ways to improve the pre-school activities, keeping up to date with the latest research and development is important.
Our staff receive lots of training each year to keep them up to date with the latest developments in creating a good curriculum covering all areas of the The Early Years Foundation Stage. Stimulating projects and well planned activities are aimed at developing your child’s social and academic skills. With guidance from OFSTED and our Sheffield Early Years we do strive to make our pre-school better and better.
Offering the children a choice of activities and outside play encourages independence and a free flowing routine enables them to play ten different things that day or just one if that is what they want to do. It is very important not to interrupt games and activities the children are enjoying.
Our garden and all weather area provide the much needed exercise for our children to run off those energy beans! We also use it for projects throughout the year, looking and collecting bugs is a favourite!
Our aim is to create a homely environment where sharing and caring for each other is important, whilst setting the foundations for your child’s learning and future education. We are aware these children are still very young and quiet and restful activities are also still very important. When your child moves into the pre-school we will spend some time with you going through what we do and what our objectives are for your child. Your child with have a key worker who will observe and record their development and we offer a yearly report and discussion on their progress. However it is important to us that you feel happy to discuss any issues you have with your child’s keyworker whenever you need to.
Children enjoy their mealtimes it is very important children are given positive views and experiences with food as it can be a tricky time for some children!
